About Us
Manufacturing Practices, Inc. serves the manufacturing and distribution community by assisting them to select, implement, and find additional value in their business enterprise management system (ERP). I have assisted well over 60 companies implement and improve their ERP Systems. My company is a small management consulting firm that has business relationships with other small management consulting firms. Those organizations provide assistance to my clients in areas where my expertise is limited. Currently, I am the lone employee with a long career in operations and supply chain management.
My customers are mostly small and mid-sized organizations between 30M and 500M ($US) although we do occasional tactical projects for the Fortune 50 and 500 organizations. I am well experiences with the "Mom and Pop" shops that are the backbone of the American economy. I understand their issues and concerns, I am like them, also a "Mom and Pop" shop since my wife of almost 40 years is the company Secretary.
My background has been diverse, (automotive, paper, chemical, medical devices, job shops, and electronics). Most of my customers serve the same industries in which I grew up although I have additional experience in clothing, nuclear, food, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) organizations. Job shop organizations are part of my DNA.
In the middle 1980s, I began my last manufacturing front office role when I assumed IT, material, and operations management responsibilities for a small family owned business. While there, the company management, their employees and I successfully deployed business management software for the organization. It was the most rewarding experience of my professional career. As soon as I transitioned the responsibilities to a colleague, I left that organization and began working as a business management consultant.
My experiences began in various manufacturing plant operations roles in the mid-1960s. In November of 1982, I became a member of APICS - The Association for Operations Management. I received APICS certification (CPIM) in 1989 and even today remain heavily involved with APICS. I am also a member of the Institute of Management Consultants - USA.
Earlier in my career, as I began to transition from the back to front office, I began working with business management software. I was fortunate enough to take part in the evolution of business system implementations, including MRP, MRPII, and ERP systems until the late 1980s. In the early 1990s, I began to work with vendors’ ERP packages as an ERP consultant. I formed Manufacturing Practices in April of 2004 as an independent ERP Consulting firm.
I possess a proficiency in analyzing the operation details and their structure to increase client profits by reducing the impact of non-value added activities. My understanding of the importance of timely, accurate information to reveal additional opportunities to enhance company growth and profitability creates a value for clients that few other Management Consultants with an ERP focus produce. My college education (BS) at a teaching college enables me to easily transition that knowledge to the client teams. As a result, Manufacturing Practices, Inc. client organization realizes dramatic financial gains.
